Annette QuiggAnnette was a 1984 graduate of Leonardtown High School and went on to earn her teaching degree and then a Master’s degree. She spent her career as a dedicated teacher, holding many positions throughout the state of Maryland. Her greatest love was for her family and children. She loved all children: her own, her nieces and nephews and the many students she taught over the years.

The Leonardtown High School Class of 1984 has established this fund to honor Annette Quigg’s memory and to continue to give towards one of her lifelong passions, education. Our intent is to provide a means where people can contribute, and children of our childhood community, St. Mary’s County, can benefit for years to come.

The scholarship fund will provide a scholarship awarded annually to a graduate of the Teachers Academy of Maryland (TAM program). The TAM Program was developed collaboratively among local school systems, community colleges, four-year institutions, and representatives from the University System of Maryland, the Maryland Higher Education Commission, and the Maryland State Department of Education. TAM aims to address the teacher shortages in critical areas by creating a pipeline of future candidates, starting with establishing Future Educators Association (FEA) chapters in local school systems.

The scholarship recipient in the TAM program will attend one of their participating universities and pursue a degree in education. The scholarship recipient plans to begin their career as a teacher in the St. Mary’s County school system after obtaining their degree.  The scholarship funds would be distributed directly to the university to offset any expenses for the tuition and costs for the student/future educator. The initial scholarship amount is $250.00.
