Accepting Nominations for Annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon The Community Foundation of Southern Maryland, (CFSOMD) a non-profit, 501 c 3 is now accepting nominations for their 9th Annual Philanthropy Day luncheon ~ Women With Impact ~ to take place on Friday, November 7, 11:30 at Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center. This year’s event focus’ on Women who have made an exceptional impact in the lives of others locally, regionally or globally.

Using Your IRA to Make a Year-End Charitable Gift If by Dec. 31, 2013 you will be 70 1/2 and older, you may want to consider making a gift to a charitable fund with a gift directly from your traditional or Roth Individual Retirement Account (IRA) without incurring income taxes today or estate taxes in the future. Called the IRA Charitable Rollover, the provision allows eligible individuals to “roll over” up to $100,000 from an IRA directly to a charitable fund. The provision is scheduled to end Dec. 31, 2013. Maryland Community Foundations Receive Pioneer Award On behalf of the 14 community foundations across Maryland, the Maryland Community Foundation Association (MCFA) accepted the Pioneer Award today from the Grant Professionals Association during a national conference held in Baltimore. BECA Receives 501(c)(3) Status and Announces 2014 Scholarship Schedule On November 8, 2013 the Internal Revenue Service notified St. Mary’s County Business, Education and Community Alliance, Inc. (BECA) that the non-profit organization is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Furthermore, BECA is considered a public charity under section 509(a)(2). The effective date of the exemption is retroactive to January 22, 2013 so all contributions made to BECA at the March 15, 2013 Annual Scholarship Benefit at Bowles Farms are tax-deductible. Request for Proposals: Chaney Beautification Grant Program Announces Funding Available February 2
To encourage beautiful, sustainable landscapes in our community, beautification grants are awarded annually to non-profit organizations. Funding for the beautification grants comes from the Chaney Beautification Fund, a Field of Interest Fund held at the Community Foundation and provides a connection between Chaney Enterprises and the communities in which it operates. Funding is available in one or more of the following geographic focus areas: Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s, Anne Arundel, Caroline or Southern Prince George’s Counties and must provide benefits to the residents within those areas. IRA Rollover . . . Consider creating a Fund with Your IRA Rollover and support nonprofits in the Community!!
As part of Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, legislators passed a two-year extension of Charitable IRA legislation, making it easier for Americans to give to causes they care about. The Charitable IRA provision, first enacted in 2006, has the power to help local charities strengthen their communities at a time when it is needed most. The extension goes through 2011. Obama extended the Pension Protection Act of 2006 when he signed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 on December 17. This permits individuals to rollover up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as income. Chaney Foundation Bull Roast: In 29 Years Raised More Than $500,000 to American Cancer Society January 2010
We are thrilled to present the American Cancer Society (ACS) with a check for $20,000 from the Chaney Foundation Bull Roast Fund, a component Fund of the Community Foundation of Charles County (CFCC). The Chaney Foundation’s annual Bull Roast has raised more than $500,000 to support ACS and the community at large is the one to thank. Constellation Energy Creates a Fund for Heat Systems at the Baltimore Community Foundation October 22
Thanks to Constellation Energy, hundreds of needy families across Baltimore City will be warming up with new, energy-efficient furnaces this winter. The furnace replacement program, which launches in November 2009, is made possible by Constellation's $1 million gift to the Baltimore Community Foundation to create the BGE Heating System Fund. CHANEY ENTERPRISES 'ROASTING BULL' FOR 30 YEARS STRONG September 18
It started 30 years ago in a small office with a passion to help find a cure for cancer, which ended Babe Chaney’s life too soon. After losing his father when he was 10 years old, and after graduating from College in June 1979, Frank Chaney, chair of the Chaney Foundation board of directors, envisioned a way that his family could make a positive difference for those with cancer. On an October Saturday in 1979, Dickie Chaney, then Chaney Enterprises’ president, with a few customers, vendors, community folk and a score of employees fired up the pit and the Bull Roast took off, helping to meet his family’s goal of beating cancer.
