Request for Proposals: Chaney Beautification Grant Program Announces Funding Available February 2
To encourage beautiful, sustainable landscapes in our community, beautification grants are awarded annually to non-profit organizations. Funding for the beautification grants comes from the Chaney Beautification Fund, a Field of Interest Fund held at the Community Foundation and provides a connection between Chaney Enterprises and the communities in which it operates. Funding is available in one or more of the following geographic focus areas: Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s, Anne Arundel, Caroline or Southern Prince George’s Counties and must provide benefits to the residents within those areas.

IRA Rollover . . . Consider creating a Fund with Your IRA Rollover and support nonprofits in the Community!!
As part of Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, legislators passed a two-year extension of Charitable IRA legislation, making it easier for Americans to give to causes they care about. The Charitable IRA provision, first enacted in 2006, has the power to help local charities strengthen their communities at a time when it is needed most. The extension goes through 2011.

Washington Area Residents Give to the Max For Local Nonprofits On November 9th!
On November 9th, thousands of area nonprofits will unite to raise millions of dollars as part of the first annual Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington (www.give2max.org), a massive one-day regional online fundraiser to support local programs. Nonprofits that serve the greater Washington region will ask donors to display their generosity in a region-wide competition to raise as much money and as many supporters as possible in order to win hundreds of thousands of dollars in awards.

Obama extended the Pension Protection Act of 2006 when he signed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 on December 17. This permits individuals to rollover up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as income. Constellation Energy Creates a Fund for Heat Systems at the Baltimore Community Foundation October 22
Thanks to Constellation Energy, hundreds of needy families across Baltimore City will be warming up with new, energy-efficient furnaces this winter.
The furnace replacement program, which launches in November 2009, is made possible by Constellation's $1 million gift to the Baltimore Community Foundation to create the BGE Heating System Fund.

CHANEY ENTERPRISES 'ROASTING BULL' FOR 30 YEARS STRONG September 18
It started 30 years ago in a small office with a passion to help find a cure for cancer, which ended Babe Chaney’s life too soon. After losing his father when he was 10 years old, and after graduating from College in June 1979, Frank Chaney, chair of the Chaney Foundation board of directors, envisioned a way that his family could make a positive difference for those with cancer. On an October Saturday in 1979, Dickie Chaney, then Chaney Enterprises’ president, with a few customers, vendors, community folk and a score of employees fired up the pit and the Bull Roast took off, helping to meet his family’s goal of beating cancer.
