The endowed and non-endowed funds managed by the Community Foundation of Southern Maryland award gifts on an annual and ongoing basis to nonprofit organizations that enhance the quality of life for the community of Southern Maryland. Gifts that are awarded from our funds are used to support programs and activities in any of our seven broad focus areas: arts and culture, education and scholarships, the environment, general community improvement, health and wellness, youth, and veterans.

To be eligible for a gift from the Community Foundation of Southern Maryland, organizations must be one of the following:

  • A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization;
  • A government agency applying for an extraordinary project that is not funded by tax revenue;
  • A religious organization requesting funding for non-sectarian activities; or
  • A civic group that is not a 501(c)(3) requesting funding for a community cause.

Information on how to apply for a gift from a particular fund can be found in the fund’s description. If the information is not listed in the fund’s description, contact the Executive Director.
