The Chaney Beautification Fund is making grants available to non-profit organizations to encourage beautiful, sustainable landscapes in Southern Maryland and Virginia. The Community Foundation of Southern Maryland is making grants available again to elementary and middle schools through the Green Apple Fund for teachers who purchase supplies for their classrooms. Grants ranging from $25 to $100 are available. Educators who teach in private and public schools in Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties, grades one through eight, are invited to apply. On November 8, 2013 the Internal Revenue Service notified St. Mary’s County Business, Education and Community Alliance, Inc. (BECA) that the non-profit organization is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Furthermore, BECA is considered a public charity under section 509(a)(2).
